Gift buying treated as a matching problem, which is either a real product or a very elaborate way to avoid asking someone what they want.

Everybody is bad at gifts and nobody thinks they are.

Presently takes a few sentences about a person, their hobbies, what they have mentioned wanting lately, optionally a public Pinterest board, and returns a small curated set of things from independent makers rather than a keyword search of a marketplace. The pitch is aesthetic match, not category match.

I built the landing page and the intake form first, to test whether the framing landed before building any of the matching. That order is the only part I would repeat without changes. The form ends up asking the questions a thoughtful friend would ask, and that turned out to be the product insight rather than the model.

The matching engine does not exist yet, and the honest reason is supply. Curated independent makers do not have an API.
