About

I'm Rohan Aslam and I live in Scarborough, which means I've spent a meaningful fraction of my life on the Lakeshore East line.

I studied Communication, Culture, Information and Technology at U of T Mississauga with a computer science minor. It gave me a foundation in both qualitative design and practical software development, helping me bridge technical details with real user needs.

Then four internships and a work-study term. Web development at RBC on an internal tool for wealth management advisors. Sixteen months on the Experience Design and Innovation team at Ontario Teachers'. Design research at the U of T Innovation Hub, talking to educators across Ontario about their day-to-day challenges. Product at Dye and Durham on eCore. And digital transformation at Sun Life, which led to my current full-time role on the SunAdvantage team.

Somewhere in there I co-founded SmartSyllabus with two friends, starting from a course project and developing it further through University of Toronto ICUBE. It's live at smartsyllabus.ca, and taking an idea from prototype to real students has been one of the most rewarding learning experiences I've had.

Most weekends I enjoy building small tools to experiment with new ideas, from automated pipelines and local assistants to data visualizations. It's how I stay curious and learn by doing.

Outside of that I hike. Algonquin, Petroglyphs, and one memorable day trip to Charlevoix that involved leaving Scarborough at 3:40 in the morning and getting home twenty-six hours later. I also help coordinate events and volunteer rotations in my community, which has taught me a lot about grassroots organizing, patience, and team collaboration.
